You don't take a photograph,
you make it.

-Ansel Adams
Photography is an art. It’s a lifelong mastery in capturing the moments of now, that can never happen twice, and preserving the pages of life, which are only written once.

Our culture markets the idea that anyone can do anything if they buy the right technology, but the work of professionals reflects that cameras do not create photographers any more than brushes create painters. No matter how advanced, impressive or expensive, technology cannot substitute for the trained artist’s insight or the experienced professional’s technique. The great works of Da Vinci, Van Gogh and Picasso were determined by the quality of their skill and perception rather than the quality of their paint.

Owner and founder Ned Winn has spent more than 30 years developing his strengths and skills as a professional photographer. He is one of less than 2,000 certified professionals worldwide. He holds a degree of Photographic Craftsman from Professional Photographers of America (PPA), recognized as both a photographic artist and an instructor of certified professionals. He is an active member of numerous other professional communities, including American Society of Photographers, National Association of Photoshop Professionals, Professional Photographers of North Carolina, and Photographic Society of the Triangle. He currently serves as state certification liaison for PPA.

Ned serves his clients at Winn Portrait Studio with a dedicated passion for bringing their ideas to life on the printed canvas. As a lifelong storyteller, Ned works to create a rich, visual-storytelling experience within his portraits, customized to each individual’s interests.

A portrait is more than just a picture. It’s a record, a memoir and a story. Anyone can take a picture, but a story is only as good as the author’s ability to tell it. At Winn Portrait Studio, Ned has spent more than three decades sharpening the ability to tell yours.
